Notes and News

February birthdays are Tong Yuan (2/1), Maggie (2/17), and Sally (2/20). Happy birthday to them!

The eighth grade get-together is Sunday, February 7 at 5:00pm.

On Monday, February 8 at 5:30pm there is a Green Team meeting.

Mid-winter Break is February 15 - 19.

The next LWGMS board meeting is Monday, February 8 at 5:30pm.

Deposits for returning families will be due on March 26. Enrollment contracts will be going home in February.

Service Learning

Student Council is holding an ongoing coin drive (“Change” for Change”), with all proceeds benefiting the four relief organizations listed above. The change jar (a repurposed Crystal Springs bottle) is located in the office.

Children's Rights

Our service learning theme for Winter Term is children’s rights and LWGMS has been invited by the Seattle King County Coalition on Homelessness (SKCCH) to lobby for children’s right-to-housing legislation on February 12. Given the amount of preparation, in addition to the all-day field trip to Olympia, students will not be required to complete an additional 2 hours of service this term. More details to follow!

Science Fair

Science Fair is on February 10 at 7pm. Check the 8th grade Science Fair 2010 for more information.
Just a reminder that, as is the case with all evening events at school, there will be no staff supervision for students after school on Science Fair day (Wednesday, February 10).
Students who are not in HW club need to leave the building by 3:30. Homework club students need to leave the building by 5:30.
Please make arrangements for your student for after school. Dinner will not be provided for students at or before this event. Thanks!

Respect and Responsibility Tip of the Week

Using proper email etiquette is respectful! Treat email more like a letter and less like a text message. Begin with "Hello" or "Dear (Insert Teacher's Name Here)". Use complete sentences, capitalization, and punctuation. End your email with a "Thank you" or some other salutation and your name. Want to know more about email etiquette? See this site: http://www.ctcs.uconn.edu/ec/email_etiquette.pdf

Have a great week!
Patti
