2008-2009 Mayor's Scholars Awards
Calling all middle school students in Seattle!
Mayor's Scholars are middle school students in good standing who are "unsung heroes," who have overcome obstacles or met challenges in their lives and demonstrated commitment to their community through their school, neighborhood, or religious organizations, or through other activities.
Each year, about 20 awards are given to middle school students who are responsible and generous community members who give to society and lead by their examples. The program is open to any student living in and attending middle school in Seattle.
If you work hard in school and spend time helping to improve your community, you can compete for an award.
- Each Mayor's Scholar will receive a Mayor's Scholar jacket and $500 to contribute to the charity or cause of their choice or to further their education.
- Pick up an application at school, or contact the City's Office for Education (tel. 206.233.5118 or e-mail vog.elttaes|eciffOnoitacudE#vog.elttaes|eciffOnoitacudE). Complete the application by answering some brief essay questions about how you give back to your community, your future college plans, and how you would use your award. You will also need to ask a teacher, a youth group leader, or another adult in your community (not your principal or a family member) to complete a reference form on your behalf.
- Applications must be received by the Office for Education by 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2009.
Applications are available online at:
