Persia, Iran, Islam & Persepolis
As we complete our unit on Islam and Perspolis, you have a few assignments coming up in the next couple of weeks. Please put all these dates in your planner!
Essay Assignment: In a five-paragraph, expository essay, answer the following question using a strong thesis statement and three supporting paragraphs. The best essays will be well-organized, well-written, and well-supported with specific evidence from the novel.
Essay Question: In an Associated Press interview, Marjane Satrapi said, “The only thing I hope is that people will read my book and see that this abstract thing, this Axis of Evil, is made up of individuals with lives and hopes.” And in her introduction to Persepolis, she explains that she wrote this book to show that Iran is not only a country of “fundamentalism, fanaticism, and terrorism.”
How does Satrapi go about challenging this myth? How does Persepolis challenge American views on Iran and Islam?
Chapter 3 Outline & Exam: Using your outline and notes from class, study for a unit exam on the Roots of Islam – this unit includes Chapter 3 of your textbook as well as the Modern Iran packet from class.
