Several options are available for meeting the needs of advanced learners at the high school level.
Honors and Advanced Placement (AP): Each high school offers a different array of honors and AP courses. Adivanced Placement courses follow the College Board's curriculum and present sophomores, juniors, and seniors with the opportunity to master college-level curriculum while still in high school. Registration for AP courses is done at the schools while registering for high school classes. AP exams administered in May culminate up to a full year of rigorous course work. College admission officers consider AP courses, with their emphasis on critical thinking skills, to be excellent preparation for college success.
The prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) program is available to juniors and seniors at Ingraham and Chief Sealth. The IB Diploma program is an integrated and engaging pre-university curriculum that includes courses in the humanities, world language, the arts, mathematics and science. Students can pursue a full IB Diploma, or focus on areas in which they have the greatest interest and sense of mastery. Colleges and universities throughout the United States and the world grant incoming students credit and/or placement for qualifying IB exam scores. College admission officers consider IB courses, with their emphasis on critical thinking skills, to be excellent preparation for college success.
The Accelerated Progress Program (APP) is housed at Garfield. Courses of study typically consist of Honors classes, AP courses, and electives.
