After School Programs

2007 - 2008

At LWGMS, we have two after-school programs. Registration is by term (Fall, Winter, or Spring).

HOMEWORK CLUB

1) Homework Club is every Monday through Friday at school, from 3:30 to 5:15.

Fees for Homework Club must be paid to LWGMS upon registration at the beginning of the term.

YMCA PROGRAMS

2) The other programs are run at LWGMS by the YMCA. Most of these programs happen on Fridays. Costs vary (see program descriptions below), and should be paid directly to the YMCA upon registration. To sign up for these programs, attend the first meeting.

YMCA AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS FOR FALL

Photography Club- Students learn the basics of Black and White photography as they explore their world with a camera. Club meets 1x a week, and students work one-on-one with experienced photography mentors on their photo assignments. At the end of the term, students will exhibit their work at the Triangle Art Gallery.
Program meets FRIDAYS from 3:30 to 4:30 at LWGMS. Instructor: Shalimar Gonzalez.
GALLERY SHOW: December 6, 5:30-7

YMCA AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS FOR WINTER

Art Studio- Students can experiment with drawing, painting, collage, and graphic design in this mixed media art program. At the end of the term, student artwork will be shown in a professional gallery setting at the Downtown Seattle YMCA’s Triangle Art Gallery.
Program meets TUESDAYS from 3:30 to 4:30 at LWGMS. Instructor: Lauren Davis

SPLASH! - YMCA Splash is a new and exciting program designed for youth who are ready to discover and venture out into what the aquatics world has in store for them. The YMCA Splash program is an introduction and orientation to the aquatic environment. They will learn useful lifesaving, personal water skills and water safety practices that they will carry for the rest of their lives. Students are picked up once a week from LWGMS by YMCA staff and brought to their local YMCA branch for swim lessons. Once students complete the program session, they receive a completion certificate.
Program meets FRIDAYS from 3:30 to 5:00 at LWGMS. Students meet at school and take Metro (supervised by YMCA staff) to and from the Downtown Y. Instructor: Shalimar Gonzalez and YMCA swim instructor.

Supplies Needed: Swim suits (to be supplied by participant)
Participant Costs: $25/term (includes transportation).

YMCA AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS FOR SPRING

All City Youth Film Project- Video production workshops focus on building community and a strong foundation in film and video production skills. Working in small group settings, you will learn how to use film and editing equipment. You will learn pre-production, post-production as well as basic leadership skills. At the end of the quarter, you work will be shown at a community screening in Seattle.
Program meets FRIDAYS from 3:30 to 4:30 at LWGMS. Instructor: Arianna Garden-Vasquez
COMMUNITY SCREENING: June, date TBD.
