All School Meeting

Thank you to all of you who attended the all school meeting on February 26.

NOTES FROM FEBRUARY 26, 2008 ALL SCHOOL MEETING

Man of La Mancha updates

Parents/guardians were asked to sign up for driving to and from the theater and for various volunteer positions. If you are available to help with anything for the play, please contact Jan Frederick. Man of La Mancha page.

On Friday, the cast and crew may go directly to the theater at 11 am OR they can come to school at their normal arrival time (8:30). In other words, there is a late start for cast and crew, but if students need to be at school due to transportation/childcare concerns, they should come to school at the regular time and we'll bring them to the theater for rehearsal.

Parent Information Nights

Martine Pierre-Louis let everyone know that there will be an internet safety presentation by Detective Malinda Wilson on April 29th. There will be two parts to this presentation: one for students and one for parents and guardians.

Seeds of Compassion

Karin talked about our opportunity to work with the Seeds of Compassion project that will be welcoming the Dalai Lama to Seattle on April 14. For information about this project, visit the Seeds of Compassion website.

Summer Program

Lindsey and Jenny will be running a summer program during the summer at LWGMS. This is open to all girls entering grades 5 – 8 (not just LWGMS students). Please see fliers at school and at http://lwgms.wikidot.com/summer-experience-2008 for registration.

Auction and Annual Appeal

Conne let us know that we are up to 67% family participation in the Annual Appeal; we are still aiming for 100%. There was a discussion about the auctionand procurement. If you still have items that you are planning to procure, please get the form to Conne this week, because the catalog is going to print. Julie Jenkins is offering a volunteer opportunity involving a dishwasher and freezer. Please let her know if you would like to help.

School/family communication, wiki demonstration, parent association

We discussed communication between the school and families. Overall, people were pleased with the wiki site as a tool for communication and generally felt that they had an avenue for the questions and concerns to be addressed. The general consensus was that a parent association was not necessary, but that more direct information about volunteer opportunities would be helpful. Suggestions included the following:
o Create and maintain a wiki site with volunteer opportunities listed as they arise.
o Create a volunteer-coordination committee.
o Have the volunteer coordination plan be part of the school’s advancement plan (created by the Advancement Committee of the board).

Tuition and re-enrollment for 2008-2009

Scott McLeod shared the board’s process for looking at a preliminary budget and setting tuition for next year. In keeping with the commitment to economic diversity, maintaining a strong staff, and keeping tuition moderate, the board has set tuition for 2008 – 2009 at $10,600, which is a lower percentage increase than we’ve had for the past two years. Re-enrollment forms are due March 12. Although we would love to be flexible on the due date, it is important that we have a clear picture regarding any possible openings for next year and so we do need to have them in on time.

Other items

We also briefly discussed the dance on 2/29. Staff will be chaperoning and Patti will be at the sign-in at the door. We will need help with clean up, so if parents/guardians can stay and help the Student Council will greatly appreciate it.
