Fall Art Elective

Drawing from Life

Maximum # of students: 15

The eye is muscle that must be warmed up, trained, and kept in shape! In this drawing class, students will explore and practice unique ways of “making marks”. Drawing asks us to translate what we see with our eyes to marks we make on a surface. Often, our eyes trick us and we draw what we think or assume we see, rather than what actually is. Using a variety of drawing and perception skills, students will create both realistic and creative drawings. We will use traditional drawing tools like graphite and charcoal, and also experimental tools like sumi ink, newspaper cuttings, paint, and collage. This drawing “boot camp” will leave students with a confident sense of their drawing ability.
