Volunteer Opportunities for LWGMS Students and Families
Don't forget to check out the Volunteer Opportunities page. We've got something for everyone!
On May 10th City Year will be having a Young Hero led service day. On this day Jena will be one of the main leaders of service because this is her third year of city year. They will be working to restore Ravenna Park, this includes planting trees as well as pulling blackberry and ivy. The day will start at 9 and go until 4. Everyone and anyone is welcome to come and join City Year, Earthcorp and Jena on this day. The day will be followed with a huge barbeque. There will be dancing, a dj, games, food, and tons of fun. Please let Jena know if you are able to attend by calling her at 206-779-3965. Also, if you are under the age of 18 and a parent will not be coming with you, you will need to fill out a liability and waiver form prior to the date. Please let Jena know about this in advance.
Events
We will be hosting our annual potluck to welcome new LWGMS students and their families on Wednesday, May 14 from 6pm to 8pm. Please plan to attend. Sixth grade families, you will be meeting your new "buddy family" that night as well!
LWGMS will be hosting a Grandparents and Special Friends Day on Friday, May 16. Please send contact information for your student's VIP to Conne at gro.smgwl|ecurbc#gro.smgwl|ecurbc.

Eighth Grade Play
The eighth grade play (two one-acts entitled The Ever After and Property Rites) will be performed at Theatre Off Jackson on May 29-30.
View the lovely poster! Thanks, Lindsey!
The first rehearsal at the theater will be on Thursday, May 15 from 11:45 to 3:00. We could use a few drivers to pick up kids at 11:30 and drop them off at the theater on 7th and Jackson. (You could do this on your lunch break and get some yummy pho next door to the theater…)
Cast, please bring the following items:
- sack lunches (no microwave)
- scripts and a pencil
- necessary props for rehearsal
- your lines, cues, and blocking in your brain (Parents/guardians, please offer lines help to your student!)
Cast and crew — please, please, please try to avoid absences on Tuesdays and Thursdays and during play week. Every member is so important that having one person out really impacts rehearsal. There will be all-day (9am to 3pm) rehearsals at the theater during the week of May 27 - May 30. Please check the 8th grade play page for rehearsal dates and information. Parents and guardians, please check the schedule and make appointments accordingly.
Jan Frederick has sent out requests for play costumes and props. Please let her know if you can help!
Fuerza Sports
Ultimate Frisbee practices are on Wednesdays. Tennis practices are on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The last tennis match is on May 22 at Evergreeen School. 6th and 7th grade players will dismissed at 2:30. 8th graders' matches will start later so that they can stay at play rehearsal until 3pm. They will need a driver to take them from the theater to the match.
The end of season party for tennis players is on May 27.
See lwgms.wikidot.com/sports for sign up, schedules, maps to courts, and other information.
Maximize Your Donation to LWGMS
Did you raise your paddle for the fund-an-item (science equipment and scholarships) at the auction? If so, be aware that many companies will match your donation! Also, if you bought anything for a price that was above the fair market value, most companies will match the amount above the value. Questions? Ask Conne at gro.smgwl|ecurbc#gro.smgwl|ecurbc or 206.760.1526.
The Respect & Responsibility Tip of the Week
Remember that when you moving through the hallway or stairway, other people are in classes or working in offices, so be respectful of them by keeping the noise down.
Have a great weekend,
Patti
