“Imaginative Journalism” schedule

Tuesday, April 22, 2008- For homework, continue reading the novel. Have pages 3-32, chapters 1-3 read, and record new and difficult vocabulary to submit for quiz on Friday, May 2nd. Also, find a good example of an editorial for Wednesday.

Wednesday, April 23- Introduce Imaginative Journalism assignment, and hand out group assignments. Each group will create a newspaper with three sections. First, an editorial about the most recent situation, second, two interviews from two different characters (what is happening now? Who is doing what?), and third, surmise how today’s world is similar and different from the time in the novel. Work on individual “assets and liabilities” to turn in, and sign. Homework- read pages 32-63, chapters 4-8, and record new vocabulary.

Friday, April 25- Turn in “assets and liabilities” paragraph, and make commitment to your group to work on one liability. Sign group contracts, and turn in weekly vocabulary. Discuss newspaper project, and work on group assignment to be presented on Tuesday, April 29th. For homework, read pages 63-99, chapters 8-11. Record vocabulary for next week.

Tuesday, April 29- Work on newspaper group presentations. For homework, read pages 99-134, chapters 11-14. Record vocabulary for Friday’s quiz.

Wednesday, April 30- Presentation time! Girls will provide peer critiques/constructive criticism for each presentation. For homework, read pages 135-178, chapters 14-18, and record last set of vocabulary for quiz on Friday. Record the remaining vocabulary to be used in final project due on May 9th, and turn in before the end of class.

Friday, May 2- Vocabulary quiz! When done, read pages 178-211 in class quietly. Finish book for Tuesday, pages 212- 281, chapters 22-31!

Tuesday, May 6- Group presentations in the form of a news segment about how the book ends! The presentation must include three parts; editorial, interview, and free choice. For extra credit, try to use vocabulary properly somewhere in the “news” presentation. Work in groups on plan to present on Friday!

Wednesday, May 7- Group work in class to prepare for Friday.

Friday, May 9- Group presentations and peer feedback!
